Description
A classic breakfast dish featuring golden-brown brioche slices, rich custard, and a delightful blend of warm spices, served with fresh berries and maple syrup.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 loaf Brioche bread or French bread
- 6 large eggs
- 2 cups whole milk
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 tsp maple syrup extract
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
- Pinch of salt
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup butter (for frying)
- 2 cups mixed berries
- 1 cup whipped cream (for serving)
- 1/2 cup maple syrup (for serving)
Instructions
- Whisk the custard: In a large mixing bowl, combine the eggs, milk, sugar, vanilla extract, maple syrup extract, salt, and spices. Use a hand whisk to blend everything together until smooth and creamy.
- Preheat the pan: Heat a non-stick frying pan or griddle over medium-low heat and add 1 ½ to 2 tablespoons of butter per pan, letting it melt until bubbly.
- Prepare the bread: Slice the brioche into 1-inch thick slices, ensuring enough surface area absorbs that delicious custard.
- Soak the bread: Dip each slice into the custard mixture, allowing it to soak thoroughly.
- Fry time: Place the soaked slices onto the warmed pan. Fry each side low and slow, about 3-4 minutes.
- Keep warm: Transfer the cooked toast to a baking sheet in a warm oven while you fry the remaining slices.
- Serve: Plate the warm toast, topping it with whipped cream, fresh mixed berries, and a drizzle of maple syrup.
Notes
For best results, use brioche or thick French bread. Adjust cooking time based on appliance power and thickness of the bread slices.
