Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare your cake pans by greasing and flouring them.
- Mix the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in a large mixing bowl.
- Combine the eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract in another bowl.
- Add the wet mixture to the dry ingredients and mix gently until just combined.
- Carefully stir in the boiling water until smooth.
- Pour the batter evenly into the prepared cake pans.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Cool the cakes in the pans for 20-25 minutes before transferring to a cooling rack.
- Prepare the frosting by beating the softened butter, then adding powdered sugar and heavy cream, followed by orange zest, vanilla extract, and salt.
- Frost the cooled cakes, layering and decorating as desired.
- Garnish with additional orange zest and chocolate shavings.
Notes
For a richer flavor, consider using melted coconut oil instead of vegetable oil. This cake can be baked a day in advance for convenience.
