Description
A comforting and flavorful red sauce pasta, combining tangy crushed tomatoes with aromatic herbs for a delightful meal.
Ingredients
Scale
- 200g pasta (spaghetti or any type)
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 onion, chopped
- 3 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 can (400g) crushed tomatoes
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Parmesan cheese for serving
- Fresh basil for garnish
Instructions
- Cook the pasta: Bring a large pot of salted water to a rolling boil. Add your pasta, cooking it according to the package instructions until al dente. Once done, drain it in a colander and set it aside, keeping a touch of the starchy pasta water for later if needed.
- Sauté the onions: In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté it until translucent, about 5 minutes.
- Add the garlic: Toss in the minced garlic next, cooking for about a minute until its aromatic qualities fill the air—careful not to let it brown.
- Simmer the sauce: Pour in the crushed tomatoes, followed by oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Stir gently to combine and let the sauce simmer on low heat for about 10 minutes.
- Combine with pasta: Stir your cooked pasta into the sauce, ensuring each strand is well-coated. If the sauce appears too thick, add a small splash of the reserved pasta water.
- Serve and garnish: Dish out the pasta onto warm plates, generously sprinkling with Parmesan cheese and garnishing with fresh basil leaves before serving hot.
